Incentive websites are websites that offer the user some sort of incentive to complete advertiser offers. These incentives range from cash payments to free merchandise such as a free iPod or a free laptop. There are many different business models for these websites, so let's take a look at the various pros and cons.
The "free iPod" sites are basically referral-based, meaning that once you join the site and complete the advertiser offer requirements you will need to refer others in order to get your freebie (or cash payout in lieu of merchandise). The sticking point here is that most people just aren't inclined to refer the number of people that may be needed for the higher-dollar items like laptops; therefore they completed their offers and never get to the point where they can receive a payout.
Points-based sites use a point system whereby a user receives a certain amount of points (depending on the offer) that can be redeemed for merchandise. Cash-based sites are simply that - the user receives a cash payout for completion of advertiser offers. The downside is that many of these sites have a minimum payout threshold; that is, you can't cash out until you have earned a certain amount of money in your account. A good portion of these sites also have a referral system in place where you can earn a percentage of what your referrals earn, but again - most people aren't that active to generate a downline large enough to generate a decent income. There is also the issue of Internet security. Most sites require a fair amount of personal information to create an account. The average-Joe-internet-user may be hesitant to give their information to just any old website.
In summary, incentive websites can be a great way to get free stuff and/or cash. It is up to the user to decide what kind of site they want to use, and then use it to its' maximum potential.
